Its has a V-Notch ball that is segmented - a hollow segment sphere that allows reasonably smooth flow through the valve body with small pressure drop. When the valve is in the closed position and opening is commenced the small end of the 'v' is opened first allowing stable flow control during this stage. This allows for linear and even equal percentage flow characteristics.
